An Omaha shop owner will be meeting the world’s top tennis players but he’ll have to pull some strings to do it. Racquet Corner owner Joe Heydt left Thursday for Australia where he'll join a team of 15 stringers from across the globe working the Australian Open.
Heydt said the job involves long hours and short deadlines. He often has to string a racquet in less than 20 minutes. Famous players like the Williams sisters and Mardy Fish rely on his stringing methods. “If I don’t do my job that player can play really bad. So it’s a big deal.”
Heydt has traveled to several Grand Slam events and he estimates to have strung racquets for more than 250 pros.
