It was a chance for kids to see an Olympic gold medal winner in person at Children's Hospital Thursday as former University of Nebraska wrestler Jordan Burroughs, who won gold in London this summer, stopped by for a visit.
Burroughs said it's important for him to give back, especially to kids. It was also an opportunity for an autograph and photo opportunity for some of the young patients at the hospital.
Elijah Prall and his family have followed the wrestler's career and got his signature on a teddy bear. Burroughs said just competing in the 2012 Olympics was a thrill.
"It was awesome. I had a great time in London. I was around the best athletes in the world and I got to represent my country, which was an awesome experience for me. Obviously winning the gold was the best part, but just being around the best athletes in the world and soaking up the overall American spirit and pride was pretty sweet."
Burroughs won three Big 12 titles and two NCAA national championships while wrestling for the Huskers. He said if he's selected to compete in Rio de Janeiro in 2016, he plans to take in more of the other events as a spectator.
