An Omaha couple rang in the New Year with a newborn and bragging rights -- their son is the city's first baby of 2014.
A new year brings new beginnings.
Usually babies need to wait a year before they get on WOWT 6 News for First Birthdays.
Grayson Hermann is the exception.
"His due date wasn't until January 6th," said his mother, Heather Robbins, who went into labor around 7 a-m on New Year's Eve.
Local hospitals have a competition of sorts -- who will be home to the first born of the new year.
This year -- Methodist Women's Hospital took home the title.
Grayson arrived at 1:21 a-m. Three hours sooner than the next baby at Bergan Mercy.
"The nurses were funny," said Mom. "They said this is like the Olympics of labor and delivery. They were rooting for the baby to be born at this hospital."
The parents were actually shooting for 2013.
Heather: "We were going, before midnight, before midnight."
John: "Tax break."
Heather: "And insurance is better. We were like -- 'Aw, man.' And they were like -- 'No, you're the new year's baby!'"
John Hermann and his wife have two Grayson's in the family now.
Their daughter Holland -- gave that same name to her doll.
No sibling rivalry yet.
The Methodist Women's Hospital broke its own record from 2004 -- delivering more babies than ever in 2013.
The tally: 3,948.
