Nebraska lawmakers have set the stage for battles next year on many of the same issues that they failed to agree on during the 2013 session.
Lawmakers will once again debate taxes, water usage, and a bill to extend Medicaid coverage. Speaker Greg Adams of York says lawmakers will face high expectations once they reconvene.
The session will mark the final year for 17 lawmakers and Gov. Dave Heineman, who are all set to leave office in January 2015 because of term limits.
It also comes during a high-profile election year in Nebraska, with open contests for both governor and the U.S. Senate. At least five current state lawmakers are considering a run for higher office, or have already declared.
