More than 200 people attended a mayoral forum Monday night at North High.

The 5 major candidates agreed on many of the topics brought up by Raise the Vote such as abandoned homes and vacant lots, housing, jobs, education and crime.

Here's a sample of the latter:

Dan Welch: "The problem is the social issues...fatherless children -- mothers who are too young - drop out rate that is unacceptable."

Jean Stothert: "We must keep our children in school and get them a high school education. We must address the truancy issue."

Brad Ashford: "We're the third highest juvenile detention state in the country. That isn't making us safer. It's making us less safe."

Dave Nabity: "A lot of time we talk about what we want to do to stop crime and it's about the criminal. But the first thing I want to do is put residents who are law-abiding first in whatever we do."

Jim Suttle: "The city of Omaha is a safe city. If you compare Omaha to the five cities above and below [for population] you can see the parallels."

The primary is April 2.

On Wednesday, KFAB -- our radio partner -- will host an informal get-together with the 5 major mayoral candidates at Anthony's Steakhouse, 72nd and F, from 6-8 p.m.

For the first hour, voters can speak with each of the candidates one-on-one. The second hour will involve questions from the moderator.
