Scrap metal thieves are targeting the city's property. Omaha Police have two reports from mid February of several missing manhole covers.
One report lists three missing manhole covers in the area of 9th and Storz Expressway. Another report states that one of the manhole covers in the area of 13th and O Streets was taken as well.
City crews have replaced all four missing manhole covers.
The report states each manhole costs $200 to replace. Theft of manhole covers or sewer grates generally increase when scrap metal prices rise.
