A suicidal man is undergoing evaluation after threatening to set himself on fire at 24th and Himebaugh Wednesday.
He doused himself in lighter fluid and held a lighter to his chest while arguing with police. The man did not threaten anyone.
Police and SWAT members tried to calm him down while firefighters stood by.
Omaha Police Lieutenant Mike McGee said, “You can tell he had it on him. Fortunately he was just wearing a pair of shorts so it wasn't soaked into the clothing like it could have been had he been fully dressed."
After several minutes outside, the man surrendered without incident. Police and firefighters wiped off the lighter fluid and transported the man for mental evaluation.
