Man Recounts Horrific Crash

An Omaha man is laying in the hospital, being treated for serious head and spinal injuries. The driver who put him there was booked for DUI.

Sabino Negrete Jr. recounts what happened Wednesday night. He says he was just about to leave his Omaha home. "All of a sudden, I just hear tires screeching and then a pretty loud bang," Negrete said.

He walked outside to find a car had crashed into the building where he lives. The scene, 11th and Martha on Wednesday night.

"I looked to see if the guy was ok," Negrete said. "I had to pull his door open and I wasn't getting any response from him."

Police said 28-year-old Marvin Cruz-Lozano had been driving the Nissan, when 34-year-old Ludi Oleta-Acosta blew through a stop sign, hitting his car on the passenger side, and forcing it into a nearby home.

"There were like three or four people on the phone trying to call 9-1-1," Negrete said. "There was smoke coming out of this car, and smoke coming out of the van. They had all kinds of paint thinner, paint coming out of the back of the van, the horn was going off, lights everywhere."

Negrete said he keeps thinking of Cruz-Lozano. "It was just a bad situation," Negrete said. "The guy was just driving, minding his own business and all of a sudden a van comes and t-bones him and pretty much changes his life."

Cruz-Lozano remains in serious condition.
