An Omaha man was injured Friday night when an explosive device went off in his hand.
Police say 28-year-old Travis Thompson was taken to Immanuel Hospital and Medical Center by family members around 8 p.m.
Thompson told Channel 6 News Saturday night he had been holding a homemade firework outside his home. He lost three fingertips and had reconstructive surgery on three fingers and the palm of his hand.
Around 10 p.m. Friday, investigators from the OPD Bomb Squad joined Carter Lake police, Pottawattamie County Sheriff's Department deputies and the FBI at the Lakeside Trailer Homes near North 9th Street and Avenue K in Carter Lake. They set up a perimeter around a residence where a friend of Thompson's lives. No explosive devices were found.
OPD said this incident is not believed to be related to recent discoveries of explosive devices in the metro.
