Man Drowned in Mississippi River

A preliminary autopsy report says a Davenport, Iowa man whose body was pulled from the Mississippi River had drowned.

The body of 50-year-old David Compton was spotted about 50 feet from shore last Tuesday by a jogger on a riverfront recreational trail.

Officials are awaiting results from blood and other toxicological tests.

Compton's fingerprints were used to identify him. The body had been in the water for some time and had begun to decompose.

Police say no one had filed a report about Compton being missing. There were no signs that a crime was involved in his death.
