A man arrested in Lincoln Tuesday afternoon faces charges of criminal impersonation and illegal voting.
Police say 58-year-old Terry Kurtzhals had gone to the Wadlow-Rozanek Funeral Home last month claiming to be representing several funeral homes in smaller communities. He said he was assisting a family and requested he be given rings that had belonged to a dead woman.
After being questioned by a Wadlow-Rozanek employee, Kurtzhals became rude and argumentative. He was not given the rings since since the funeral home had not received the next of kin’s consent. Further investigation revealed that Kurtzhals was no longer a funeral director, his license having been revoked in 1996.
Kurtzhals had been convicted last December of possession of burglary tools and sentenced to a jail term of 228 days, but was released on New Year’s Day.
Someone who knew he’s a convicted felon saw him wearing an “I Voted Today” sticker on Election Day and contacted police. The Lancaster County Election Commission confirmed that Kurtzhals did vote last month.
