Man Accused Accused of Altering Lottery Ticket

Police have arrested a Lincoln man suspected of doctoring a lottery ticket to make it appear to be worth thousands of dollars.

The case began in October when a woman walked into the Nebraska Department of Revenue with a ticket she claimed was worth $35,000. Workers at the department suspected it had been altered and called police.

The woman told officers that she got the ticket from her fiance 37-year-old Jonathan Tonniges. Tonniges turned himself in to police on Monday and was arrested on suspicion of altering a lottery ticket, a felony that carries up to 20 years in prison.

A public phone listing for Tonniges could not be found. His case did not appear in online court records by Tuesday afternoon.
