The Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District will begin the releases from Lake McConaughy on Monday to make room for snow melt flowing from Wyoming.
The lake is nearly full for the first time since 1999 and snow pack is above average. District officials have warned that releases will be necessary and they've been trying to time them to reduce the risk of lowland flooding and ice jams along the Platte.
