Major Road Project South Of Omaha Delayed

A major resurfacing project is on hold. Its Highway 75 from Highway 1 at Murray north to near 1st Avenue at Plattsmouth is probably not going to happen until 2014 .

The Plattsmouth City Council approved a resolution last week authorizing an agreement with the Nebraska Department of Roads for the city’s participation in the project.

“There is zero cost to the city,” said Plattsmouth City Administrator Erv Portis. A short portion of that Highway 75 segment falls within city limits.

NDOR District 2 Engineer Tim Weander said the milling and resurfacing from Highway 1 to Highway 66 is a standalone project that was expanded northward to meet the end of current Highway 75 4-lane expansion project a few hundred feet south of Avenue B. He said NDOR tried to add that short north segment (between Highway 66 and 1st Avenue) onto the Highway 75 expansion project but was not able to obtain the environmental permits in time.

Weander said there will continue to be some concrete patching on Highway 75 between Murray and Plattsmouth until the milling and resurfacing happens.

It was originally thought there was a possibility the Highway 1 to 1st Avenue work may happen next year, but Weander said funding is not going to let that happen.
