Starting Monday major construction is underway just north of Boys Town on144th Street, north of Dodge.
Becky Shipman is bracing for the increased traffic.
“If it's a normal night you won't be able to see the end of the cars waiting to go northbound here at 144th and Blondo,” says Shipman.
But when rush hour arrives, it's anything but normal. Monday’s construction began to widen this stretch of road to four lanes.
Crews promise to keep one lane open in both directions until the project is finished in October.
Shipman's plan is to avoid delays at all cost.
“I've got other options. I can either take 156th to get back and forth to the Dodge expressway or take Blondo to 132nd.”
Crews got things going by removing sewer pipes and cut trees to prepare for the expansion.
The increase in traffic is not bad for drivers, but Gabriel King, manager of Blimpe and Frozn Spoonz says it's bad for business.
“It’ll be a shortage of people coming this way cause no one likes to be in traffic during construction, so they'll probably go somewhere else.”
The project costs just over three million dollars and is expected to be finished by Halloween.
