Metropolitan Community College launched a major expansion project in North Omaha Tuesday morning.
It’s taking place at the Fort Omaha campus where they turned the first shovels of dirt on a $90 million development.
It will house three programs: a Center for Advanced and Emerging Technology; the Construction Education Center and the Academic Skills Center.
Nick Thompson was among those on hand. He’s a contractor with Universal Renovations and a student at Metro. He says having all this under one roof will help his business.
“Just the skilled labor that will be coming out of there will be crucial to our company,” he said. “Obviously being a growing business itself, that's definitely something that we're looking for.”
Half of the cost is being covered by donations to the school.
