Man Caught Breaking into Cars at UNL

UNL Police catch a man in the act of breaking into cars inside a campus parking garage.

It happened in the same campus parking garage the UNL Police station is located in at 17th and R Streets in Lincoln.

Police say the man who did it is 19-year-old Grant Kerby, of Omaha. Kerby is a student at UNL. Police says he broke windows, windshields, headlights side mirrors and tail lights of at least 18 cars inside the garage.

Sergeant Dave Dibelka said police were tipped off by two people who heard the breaking glass then saw Kerby damaging the cars. According to Dibelka, the witnesses then reported it to police who then caught Kerby in the act.

Police are still investigating to determine if there are any other cars that Kerby damaged. As of early Monday morning, UNL Police don't think Kerby stole anything from the cars.

Kerby is in jail on felony vandalism charges.
