A 40-year-old driver who escaped from her car just before it was crushed by an oncoming train in Grand Island has been sentenced to probation.
The Grand Island Independent reports that Robin Tubbs, of St. Libory, was sentenced on Monday in Hall County Court. She was given six months of probation and was fined $400 for drunken driving.
She had pleaded no contest. The judge also ordered Tubbs not to drive for 60 days.
Police say Tubbs was driving drunk in November when her car went
into a ditch, ran across some gravel and came to a stop between some railroad tracks. She tried to drive down the tracks but got out of her car when she saw a train approaching. It crushed her car.
