Things are green at one Omaha Elementary School and Tuesday afternoon the school will be recognized for its achievements.

Students and staff at Lothrop Magnet Center will be receiving an Advanced Green School Award for its ongoing green efforts. The award is sponsored by the Green Education Council.

Currently students recycle, compost, and help keep the grounds clean and green. Teachers say it's an accomplishment students take pride in.

“Most of them will be able to tell you why we recycle and why it's important for the planet. And some of the older kids will tell you about fossil fuels and how we're running out and how plastic is made from fossil fuels,” said science teacher Pam Galus.

Students also frequently conduct trash audits, looking for recycled materials. They receive their award Tuesday at 3:00 pm.
