A youngster on a field trip lost his way in a metro orchard Tuesday but a passing motorist rounded him up on the far side of the maize maze.
The class from Fontenelle Elementary school was touring Ditmar's Orchard where the kids got the chance to pick apples and take a stroll through the maze of corn.
One of the youngsters got lost and wound up walking through the corn that served as a wall.
Kathleen Neilsen, a neighbor of the orchard, was driving home when she saw the boy crying and waving her down.
Ms. Neilsen said, "I was shook up and scared and felt so terrible for the little boy. He was crying. I could hardly get anything out of him other than he wanted to be taken back to Fontenelle.”
She took him to a nearby business where the owner of Ditmar's picked the child up and returned him to his classmates' tour group.
