John Carroll always coached his tennis players to never give up. He showed that attitude himself battling cancer for months. But Coach Carroll couldn't overcome affects of the deadly disease.
Surrounded by his family Coach Carroll passed away Monday evening.
Carroll coached both the boys and girls varsity tennis teams at Millard North High school for more than three decades winning a couple of state championships along the way. He retired just before the season began this fall as cancer treatments made him too weak to hit with his players.
Just two weeks before his passing, Coach Carroll was inducted into the Metro Tennis Coaches Hall of Fame. He attended the ceremony and even gave his former players tips from court side.
Visitation is tentatively scheduled for Friday at Brayman Mortuary near 144th & Harrison from 4-7PM. The funeral will be Saturday at 10am at Westside Community Church near 150th and West Dodge.
Coach Carroll's son John Carroll said his father didn't want people attending to dress formal but instead wear the blue and green of Millard North.
