Local Reaction to One Aspect of the Sequester

The deadline for the sequester has passed and it leaves uncertainty about what it will mean for people in the heartland.

The possible furlough of USDA meat inspectors would cause disruption in the food industry but how much? James Batenhorst is a butcher at Wohlner's grocery in Omaha. He sees a possible work around if the layoffs do occur. He says "without the inspectors the plants can't run but hopefully they'd have it all in primal or broke down in cuts where they could have enough where they could ship out for the two weeks".

Nebraska Senator and former Secretary of Agriculture Mike Johanns says "I will say as a former secretary the last place in the world you would ever cut would be meat inspectors, why? it's a safety issue number one and number two the plant can't run without the meat inspector inside the plant".

The whole business has Jim Winston very frustrated. He says "you and I can get our jobs done on a regular basis, we can make our budgets, we can make our payments why can't the people we elect do that for the whole country?".
