Metro-area families are invited to celebrate the federal recognition of same-sex marriages. The event comes roughly three months after the Supreme Court struck down the Defense of Marriage Act.
The First Unitarian Church is planning an event for September 14th. The event will feature the River City Mixed Chorus, and speakers including many local religious and community leaders.
Children's activities are also planned, including a singalong. A free
bounce house will also be there.
Organizers say the celebration is about acknowledging the Supreme Court ruling that overturned DOMA.
"Even though in Nebraska not everyone has full marriage equality, the
community wants to take a moment to celebrate all that has been done and how far we have come," reads a statement announcing the event.
