Boy Scouts Council Hands Out Record Number Of Volunteer Awards

Local Boy Scouts were celebrating Saturday night.

It was a special awards reception held at UNMC's event center.

WOWT 6 News' own Brian Mastre was the MC.

The council handed out 18 Silver Beaver awards. This is the highest honor that a volunteer can receive from the council.

On top of that, this is the largest amount the council has ever given in a year.

Organizers say it's a good sign for the region.

"If you think about Boy Scouts, it's an investment in our future. The young men in our country need guidance, and they need to learn how to be leaders," says Robert Dalrymple, the Mid-America Council's president.

This year's Silver Beaver winners came from Nebraska, Iowa, and even South Dakota.
