Living Large: American Building Big Homes

Even though the housing market has fallen off, we are still living large for the most part

The average new single family home built last year was 2,392 square feet.

That's down from 2,521 square feet in 2001...but more than 650 square feet larger than 1980.

And we're not only living larger, but cooler in the summertime.

88% of last year's new homes had central air conditioning.

That's up from 63% in 1980.
