The Lincoln Board of Education has approved a nearly $15 million insurance settlement to replace the district office building destroyed by fire more than a year ago.
The board approved the $14.85 million settlement with Travelers Insurance Co. on Tuesday. The settlement will pay for the bulk of the new building and the rest of the estimated $20 million loss, including replacement of documents and electronic equipment, will be covered by other insurance and proceeds from the sale of school land.
Former district worker Sharon Brewster was sentenced earlier this year to 8 to 12 years in prison for starting the fire that destroyed the district's headquarters in 2011.
