Lincoln Police Schedule Gun Amnesty Day

People can get rid of unwanted guns later this month in Lincoln - anonymously and with no questions asked.

The Lincoln Police Department will accept weapons and ammunition during its first Gun Amnesty Day. The event is scheduled to run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on March 23. It will be held in the NeighborWorks Lincoln parking lot on the northwest corner of 23rd and Q streets.

Police say people should transport the firearms in the trunks or back seats of their vehicles in open boxes, bags or containers. People are urged to unload the guns, open their slides, bolts and actions.

Police will not pay for the guns or ammunition.
