City leaders say plans for a civic plaza proposed for downtown Lincoln have been delayed.

The city had hoped the 18,000-square-foot, $2.6 million plaza - complete with artwork and gardens - would be done this year.

Now, city parks planner J.J. Yost says the city plans to bid the civic plaza work and improvements along P Street together in June, with construction to begin in August.

Yost says the artwork won't come in until next year.

The plaza is intended to be a place to relax, have lunch and host events such as tailgates, small concerts and outdoor yoga.
