A Lincoln man sped away from a traffic stop, leading officers on a chase.
Just after midnight, Lincoln Police stopped a silver Honda Civic for failing to stop at a sign near 20th and Washington Streets.When the officer approached the car, it sped off.
According to Captain Michon Morrow, the pursuit lasted about two minutes before being called off. At one point, the driver struck a tree near 24th and Euclid Streets but officers were too far behind to see the crash.
Morrow said the pursuit was terminated because of the reckless manner, 18-year-old William Dimas, was driving. Moments after the pursuit was called off, officers found the Civic at the intersection of 22nd and B Streets where it had become disabled on the curb.
Morrow said Dimas and a youth were removed from the car.
Officers found a substance which tested positive for methamphatamines in the car. They also found marijuana and drug parahpanalia.
Dimas was cited for Driving Under Suspension, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphanalia, and Willful Reckless Driving. Dimas was lodged in jail for Felony Fleeing to Avoid Arrest and Possession of Methamphatamine.
There were no charges for the youth
