The season of annual traditions is getting underway.
Wednesday night, Shadow Lake Towne Center in Papillion will be holding its Christmas tree lighting ceremony. Events begin at 6 p.m. Santa arrives, led by the Papillion-La Vista South Marching Band, at 6:30 p.m. Eventually, a 40-foot tree will be lit up with a fireworks finale. Complimentary horse-drawn carriage rides will be available until 9 p.m.
Thursday night is the big one. The Holiday Lights Festival will get underway in downtown Omaha. The place to be is the Gene Leahy Mall at 6 p.m.
Friday night, the Durham Museum will hold its annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony. Events begin at 4 p.m. The lighting itself is expected to be about 6:20 p.m. Also Friday, south Omaha will hold a lighting ceremony at 5:30 p.m. at La Plaza de la Raza at 24th and N streets.
Village Pointe at 168th and West Dodge Road will hold its Christmas tree lighting ceremony at 7 p.m. Friday. Santa is expected to arrive by horse and carriage. The event will include fireworks. Free carriage rides will be offered until 9 p.m.
