Are you suffering from a toothache? Hopefully not, but if you are, children at Patriot Elementary school in Papillion would be the first to say you are suffering from a compound word.
The first-graders had fun learning about how a compound word is any word made up of two or more smaller words, like tooth and ache.
They used goldfish, a compound word, in math to practice counting and in art class they drew pictures of a rainbow. “They came up with some words that are unbelievable, as you can see with little Megan here,” said teacher Kim Lynam. “She had a great time planning her outfit for the day."
“I have a sweatshirt, sweatpants, headband, bow, wristwatch and a Band-Aid and a necklace,” said Megan Sianez.
