A drier than average July has moved the area closer to drought conditions.
Rainfall in the metro will end up about 2 inches below average for the month of July. That lack of moisture has lead the area considered "abnormally dry" to grow in Nebraska over the last week.
The area deemed "abnormally dry" grew to cover nearly 42% of the state, up from 28% just last week. Parts of the metro area are included in this as well.
Rainfall remained near average levels in most of Iowa leading the entire state to stay above drought criteria.
