Platte River State Park to grow. Nebraska Game and Parks Commissioners approved the acquisition of a 23.37-acre tract of land in Cass County and designated it an addition to Platte River State Park, according to the October meeting minutes.
The Cassgram reports Game and Parks Administrator Roger Kuhn told Cassgram there are no immediate plans for the land when the purchase is formally completed, but it’s a good piece of property to “enhance the Game and Parks’ Recruit, Retain and Develop program that encourages people to be outdoors.”
The tract of land is east of the Platte River State Park and is now a natural oak forest, said Kuhn. There is no development on the property.
Kuhn foresees extension of hiking, biking and equestrian trails on the property someday.
He said the current owner indicated his willingness to sell and the Game and Parks was naturally interested because of the location to Platte River SP and because there is less and less undeveloped land along the lower Platte River.
---The Outdoor Heritage Shooting Complex at Platte River State Park proved to be a good addition this year, said Kuhn. “There are many great programs happening there and more to come next year,” he said.
A shotgun range will be added to the shooting complex in 2012.
