La Vista voters overwhelmingly rejected plans to build an $8.5-million water park.
57% of voters (1,097 people) said no to the proposal. 43% said yes (or 819 people). The difference was 278 votes.
City leaders have repeatedly said the 50-year old pool was getting expensive to repair.
In 2008, voters also defeated a water park concept by 305 votes.
Little has changed regarding public sentiment since then. Even a survey of voters in 2008 found that 46% of the people either strongly or somewhat support the water park idea.
