Santa threw dust collected from the North Pole to trigger the lights on the La Vista tree by city hall Monday night.
The 60-foot tall tree holds more than 3,000 bulbs.
More than 600 people attended the tree lighting ceremony and the holiday entertainment and soup supper hosted by Mayor Kindig and the city council.
This is the same tree that in 2009, a man tried to cut down -- according to investigators.
