A neighbor with a good nose and a sense of community combine to put out a fire before it has the chance to grow.
It started about noon at the Crestview Village Complex in La Vista.
A neighbor smelled smoke and alerted the management, maintenance men entered the apartment with fire extinguishers, and they were followed closely by La Vista Police.
When the fire trucks arrived the visible flames were almost out.
Fire Chief Rich Uhl says, “The fire appears to have started in the wall or ceiling area on the first floor of one of the apartments and traveled up inside the wall to the second floor but the guys had really good knock-down on it as a matter of fact the police department helped us out with that.”
The fire was extinguished so quickly only a little smoke spread to the other apartments. Everyone was able to return to their residence this afternoon.
