Kite Surfing And Playground Bound

A number of people said this was the day they have been waiting for. We've had warm days before but this one they say seems like the start of spring. So many people broke out the running or walking shoes and headed outside.

People returned to their warm weather hobbies like golf but others struck out on an uncharted course and tried something new.

It is harder than it looks but Chris Poppe is determined to get the hang of kite-surfing.

Popular on the coasts the sport has yet to take off in the Heartland. Even after he crashes Poppe's resolve never waivers.

Chris Poppe says, "It is just a total rush a little painful but just a rush more than anything."

Poppe's friend Bobby Barajas is teaching him the ropes of kite surfing and figured Memorial Park was the place to be. Poppe enjoyed the air born moments of his first lesson.

Chris Poppe says, "I would say kind of weightless you're just kind of floating up there and you're getting dragged you have no control. I figure you're only young once might as well have a little bit of fun right?"

Bobby Barajas says, "You could compare it to something like skate boarding you have the people who like to cruise on the street and then you have the people who like to hit the ramps and try to get air. I like the combination of both personally I like getting lifted up in the air."

Manny Gannon is happy to stay on the ground, for now. He's a little apprehensive at the swinging bridge but he quickly conquers his fear.

Megan Gannon says, "Every time there is a warm day we hit it if we can."

Mom Megan feels it's important for her son to spend quality time outside but she doesn't limit it to when the temperature is approaching 70 degrees.

Megan Gannon says, "Above freezing we'll just go around the block and by the time we cross 50 degrees we head for the horizon." But they are always home in time for Manny’s next nap.
