Kids' TV Before Bed

What children watch on TV before bed could impact how long it takes them to fall - and stay - asleep.

A new study out of Seattle Children's Hospital looked at over 500 families with three to five-year-olds. Half the families worked with a counselor on ways to replace violent media with age-appropriate shows. The other families received nutrition education information.

They found those who learned ways to reduce exposure to violence on TV had children with fewer sleep problems.

Experts say this shows what kids are watching before bed has a direct effect on their sleep, and that parents need to take steps to ensure their children are exposed to age-appropriate media.

The positive effect on sleep lasted for about six months after the program ended.
