Bob Kerrey and Deb Fischer squared off in their third and final debate Monday night. The two argued why they should be elected to represent Nebraska in the U.S. Senate.

The debate was held in Lincoln and broadcast live on NET.

At one point, the two argued over how to handle the economy. Both agreed on the need to reduce spending. When it comes to generating more revenue, Fischer resisted and Kerrey became a strong voice for it.

Fischer said, “We need to lower the corporate tax rate. I mentioned earlier that it's 35%. The highest among our trading partners. I suggested over a year ago that we lower it to 24%. We need to repeal the death tax. Here in Nebraska, we've done that. We need to see that happen at the federal level as well. We need to repeal the Alternative Minimum Tax."

Kerrey responded by saying, “Look, remember the Cinderella story with the glass slipper? Well, Senator Fischer has created this glass slipper with a constitutional amendment and this pledge to Grover Norquist. That's the glass slipper. And all the things she talks about, you can't get it in there. The foot's too big."

Kerrey also proposed a constitutional amendment to make Congress, like Nebraska’s Unicam, non-partisan. His amendment would also introduce term limits and ban outside money for campaigns.

Fischer dismissed the idea of the constitutional amendment for being too difficult. She criticized Kerrey for accepting a majority of his campaign money from outside sources.
