Jury Selection Begins In Ex-Iowa Football Player's Trial

A jury could be seated on Tuesday to hear the second-degree sexual abuse trial of former Iowa football player Cedric Everson.

Potential jurors were quizzed on Monday about whether their views on race, alcohol and their personal experiences would impact their ability to hear the case.

Once they have a pool of 26 potential jurors, prosecutor Anne Lahey and defense attorney Leon Spies are expected to pick a jury of 12 plus two alternates to hear the case.

Opening arguments and testimony could begin later Tuesday.

Prosecutors say Everson, who is black, had sexual intercourse in a university dorm room with a white woman who was passed out after she had been drinking in October 2007.

He is fighting the charge, which could carry up to 25 years in prison.
