Jury selection resumed Wednesday in the first-degree murder trial of Avery Tyler, accused in the Labor Day 2012 shooting of a man outside an Omaha bar.
Police say Delayno Wright was walking to his car with his girlfriend and another man when they crossed paths with two men outside of the Halo Ultra Lounge near South 175th Street and West Center Road just after midnight on September 3, 2012. One of those men was Tyler.
Wright's girlfriend accused Tyler of touching her inappropriately and an altercation ensued. Police say Tyler went back to his car, got a gun and opened fire.
Tyler's girlfriend, Romesha Fountain, as well as another friend, Jelani Johnson, were also charged as accessories for allegedly lying to police. Tyler and Johnson are former Bellevue University basketball players. Tyler was part of one of Omaha Central High School's state championship basketball teams.
