There are less than 100 days until the Opening Ceremony of the London Olympic Games. In Omaha, Olympic enthusiasts don't have to wait quite as long to get a taste.
The U.S. Swim Trials will be held at the Century Link Center June 25th through July 2nd. Many area swimmers are eagerly counting down, especially the DiVentures swim team, also called the Junior Olympians.
"Swimming is probably one of my favorite activities," said Johnathon Fernandez. "It's pretty fun because we have some competitive events each month."
While these kids love diving into the pool, many said getting the chance to attend the Swim Trials beats practice any day.
Swimmer Kate Vokal said, "And it's really fun because you get to see them, if they make it to the Olympics or not."
Of course, seeing Michael Phelps compete is a dream come true.
Fernandez said, "He's kind of the reason I started swimming, he's fast and he like speeds down the swim pool."
Not only will fans have a chance to watch Phelps swim, they can try to swim like him too. At this year's Aqua Zone, a swim treadmill will be available for fans that mimics how fast Phelps swims.
Swimmer Annlynn Casey said, "That would be really cool. I'm not sure what it would be like, but it would be really cool."
Junior Olympians Coach Brianne Kemp added, "Oh wow, so that you can bang up against the wall and not keep up with the current. Awesome!"
While it may be a fun experience, Kemp hopes the treadmill and the Trials will inspire her Junior Olympians.
Fernandez said, "Oh, the Olympics. That would be a big achievement if I can work on my technique."
Tickets are still available on ticketmaster.com for the 2012 Olympic Trials. Four-day packages range in price from $290-$180. Single-day tickets are also available.
