One of the three Brazilian men convicted in the murders of Vanderlei Szczepanik, his wife, Jacqueline, and their son, Christopher, will spend the rest of his life behind bars.

Jose Oliveira-Coutinho was convicted on three counts of first degree murder and one count of theft. A three-judge panel decided against the death penalty and, instead, sentenced Oliveira-Coutinho to life in prison.

Investigators said Oliveira-Coutinho and two other men beat Vanderlei Szczepanik to death and hanged his wife and son, throwing the bodies in the Missouri River.
