A representative from a major company came to Omaha Thursday to settle a long-standing dispute.
Frank's Kraut of Ohio has proclaimed Omaha the birthplace of the Reuben sandwich. Because of that, the kitchen at the Crescent Moon Alehouse at 36th and Farnam served only Reuben sandwiches Thursday afternoon. And it's not a real Reuben if there isn't sauerkraut.
“We dug into it a bit deeper and learned about the Blackstone Hotel and the chef and the man who owned it and the late night poker sessions and we just thought that fits with it and makes sense and we decided to officially name Omaha as the home of the Reuben sandwich,” said Katie Smith with Frank’s Kraut.
Some cities are already disputing the declaration on social media. One of the photos taken at the Crescent Moon will appear on the Frank's Kraut label.
