An Iowa woman who punished her 22-month-old son by briefly running a clothes dryer with him inside has pleaded guilty.
Mallory Hakes of Mason City was sentenced on Monday to a year of probation and a suspended sentence of a year in jail. She pleaded guilty to misdemeanor child endangerment.
According to police, in December Hakes' son crawled into the dryer in the home's basement to hide. The child wasn't injured when Hakes briefly turned on the dryer.
In court Hakes said she wasn't angry at her son but was trying to teach the boy not to climb into the dryer.
The Iowa Department of Human Services removed the boy from her
care, and Hakes is taking parenting classes.
