Hundreds of labor members are planning to take part in a Statehouse rally to show support for Wisconsin public workers who are fighting efforts to end collective bargaining rights.
Danny Homan, who heads the largest union representing state
workers, said Iowa labor leaders organized the rally at the last
moment and don't expect a huge turnout.
Though the rally is to support Wisconsin workers, Homan said more rallies may be staged to protest anti-union legislation advancing in the Iowa Legislature.
A measure in the Iowa House would change the state's collecting
bargaining law to end a requirement that health insurance be an
issue that's bargained.
