Forty-one-year-old Patricia O’Neal of Clarinda was riding a motorcycle on Highway 71 north of Villisca and slowed down to make a right turn, then apparently changed her mind and pulled back onto the highway. A car coming up behind the motorcycle tried to pass, but hit the bike. O’Neal was thrown off and the motorcycle burst into flames.
She was in critical condition at Creighton University Medical Center. The crash closed Highway 71 for about two hours.
Eighteen-year-old Tabitha Morris was a passenger in a car driven by 21-year-old Trevor Vermillion when he apparently passed out behind the wheel. The car went off the road and rolled into a drainage ditch near Farragut, Iowa.
Morris was first taken to Shenandoah Memorial Hospital and later flown to CUMC.
