A 68-year-old Iowa City collector has been accused of lying about the prices of vehicles he bought so he could save thousands of dollars on state registration fees.
David Baculis Sr. has been charged with making false statements about 28 vehicles he bought at Mecum Automobile Auctions in 2010 and 2011.
He faces felony and misdemeanor charges of fraudulent practices.
Authorities say that by Baculis' understating the prices he paid for the vehicles, he saved more than $49,000 in registration fees.
