A 33-year-old Fort Dodge, Iowa woman has been sentenced to prison for defrauding the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

Lynette Ladd was sentenced to five years in prison. Ladd had pleaded guilty to fraudulent practices.

Prosecutors said Ladd misrepresented herself as a veteran so she could gain VA health care worth more than $9,400 from April 2012 through April 2013. Prosecutors say she never served in the U.S. military.
