A Waterloo, Iowa elementary school teacher has been placed on leave over allegations that she mistreated a student.
District Spokeswoman Sharon Miller says Jennifer Witte, a special education teacher at Lou Henry Elementary, was placed on leave pending an investigation into allegations "concerning her job performance." Miller declined to provide details.
Jason and Rebecca Nichols told the newspaper that Witte used a belt to restrain their 5-year-old son on Oct. 5.
Jason Nichols says his son has been diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. He says teacher aides who witnessed the restraint notified the principal, who placed Witte on leave. Nichols says his son was transferred to another school.
